Did you know that your business can set up a web site (http://www.youbusiness.com) for under $210 initial investment for the first three months and about $25 per month? Check out web2010. This assumes you already have access to an ISP, like AT&T WorldNet, whose first 5 hours of use per month is currently free, if you use AT&T for long distance.
A web site for your company is a far more powerful advertising investment than is an ad in the phone book, plus its much much cheaper. You don't have to offer online ordering or inventory searching. Just describe your business, its assets, and contact information such as you business name, address, how to get there, phone number, FAX number, and e-mail address. Be sure to include the URL of your business' web site in all advertising.
Of course all this assumes you can write your own HTML for your web site. Don't panic, but more importantly, don't spend any money with a web site creation firm. They will rip you off for your lack of knowledge. What you don't know will definitely hurt your bottom line. Do it yourself. Its no more complicated than using a word processor to get good results. Plus it doesn't take fancy editing tools. I prefer to use a simple text editor, like Notepad.
By the way, if you haven't noticed it yet, I very much prefer to access informative web sites that can be rapidly accessed via low speed modems. This site is not overly dressed. Convey the words first, in an organized manner, and save the 100+KB multimedia downloads for movie web sites. Not everyone has access to T1/E1 leased line.
